This is the kind of angst that hurts so good. I wanted to throw myself off a cliff at the perfection of this idea. Every time John and Sherlock die they reincarnate as themselves and find each other again. The interesting part is they know that it’s going to happen! So every time they meet it’s like saying hello to an old friend, every time they make love they are reacquainting themselves with an old lover, every time Sherlock fakes his death John knows he’ll be coming home in three years. It’s like their life is on repeat but it never gets boring. Then the angst happens, Sherlock broke my heart into pieces. I wanted to cry! Don”t worry though, this story has a happy and very interesting ending! I loved this one!

As an IB student, I have to this summer write a 4000 word essay on the topic of my choice. It can be literally anything as long as it fits into a subject area specified (which isn’t that hard to accomplish).
I need a topic. I’m planning on writing either in Literature (literary analysis, criticism, etc.) or Literature and Performance (exploration of a work that’s been adapted into another media) because I’m really good at literary analysis, and my english teacher will be an excellent adviser.
I’m seriously, 100% considering writing my essay on the Sherlock Holmes canon, and before you say anything, no, I’m not doing this just because of Sherlock- I’ve loved those stories since I read them when I was eight (and cried after the Final Problem) and that love has stuck with me for the majority of my adolescent life. It’s a topic I’m both interested and well-versed in, and I think it’s perfect for an essay.
However, I need some sort of specific research question. I could talk about a specific literary element used in the original stories for Literature, or I could talk about various adaptations and the influence they have on the characters for Literature and Performance, but those are just too broad.
Anyone have any ideas on topics or inspiration for questions? Even a short phrase would help.
